Summary
A recipe (bill of materials, BOM) defines how much of each ingredient an item uses. When the item is sold, ingredient stock is deducted automatically by the recipe and the item's cost (COGS) is calculated. Production orders are for semi-finished goods you make in-house (cold brew base, syrup, sauce…): they deduct the raw ingredients and add stock of the semi-finished product based on the actual yield.
Where to find it
Admin dashboard → Stock → Recipes
Admin dashboard → Stock → Production orders
Before creating recipes
The items exist in Products → Items.
The ingredients exist in Stock → Ingredients (see "Inventory setup").
1. Recipe list
Product: the item. Has sizes means each size has its own recipe.
Ingredient: the ingredients and units used.
Count: number of ingredients in the recipe.
COGS: the item's cost, calculated automatically from ingredient purchase prices ("-" if an ingredient has no purchase price yet).
Tools: search by product name, Filter by ingredient (see which items use an ingredient), Import (create recipes in bulk from Excel).
2. Create a recipe
Click + Add recipe.
Choose the Product (item).
Under Ingredient dosage, select the ingredients used.
Enter the Quantity of each ingredient in its base unit (e.g. 100 g).
Enter Yield % if the ingredient has prep loss (default 100%).
For items with sizes: enter quantities for each size.
Click Create (or Update when editing).
Dosage columns
Ingredient: name and SKU.
Unit: the ingredient's base unit.
Quantity: amount used for one portion.
Yield %: share of the ingredient usable after loss. 100% = no loss.
Bin icon: remove the ingredient from the recipe.
3. Production orders (semi-finished goods)
Use these when you prepare semi-finished goods from raw ingredients, e.g. brewing 5 litres of coffee base from ground coffee and water. A production order deducts the raw ingredients and adds the semi-finished product to stock based on the actual yield.
Go to Stock → Production orders and click + New order.
Choose the Shop and Location (required).
Choose the Semi-finished product to make (required).
Enter the Planned yield (required).
Click + Add ingredient to list the raw ingredients and quantities used.
Add notes if needed and click Create.
The production order list shows created date, order code, shop, semi-finished product, planned and actual yield, and status. Filter by shop.
Notes
Items without a recipe don't deduct ingredient stock when sold.
Item cost is only accurate when ingredients have purchase prices (from purchase orders) and Cost tracking (COGS) is on.
Use small units (g, ml) in recipes to avoid rounding errors.
FAQ
Q: Why does the COGS column show "-"?
A: An ingredient in the recipe has no cost yet. Create a purchase order with unit prices for those ingredients.
Q: Which items use an ingredient?
A: Use Filter by ingredient on the Recipes page.
Q: What's the difference between a recipe and a production order?
A: A recipe deducts stock automatically every time the item is sold. A production order is for preparing a batch of semi-finished goods in advance and adding it to stock.
Q: Can I create many recipes at once?
A: Yes – use Import.
